More Purposeful, Less Automatic
Have you ever found yourself driving, and thinking to yourself once you’ve reached your destination “How did I get here? Or even thinking to yourself if you remembered to put on deodorant when you in fact did? We as human’s are creatures of habit. We run through our day on autopilot, without conscious awareness of what we’re doing. If we allow this to go unnoticed, we may find ourselves feeling cut off and disconnected from our lives and our hearts.
There is a space between us and the fear and stress where we can choose something new. In this space, we can learn to become more purposeful, and less automatic. By doing this, we control our capacity to follow our heart. But in order to do this we need to become more clear about what we want to be about. It’s important that we know our intentions for the kind of life we want to lead. Only then can we consciously make commitments to act in ways that honor our intentions. For example, think about being in a committed relationship. A person with ill intentions or no intentions at all will potentially waste the other person’s time and finding themselves barely meeting the other person halfway. But a person who’s ready to be committed and has good intentions, will take the time and really invest in that relationship. Regardless of the up’s and down’s and the misunderstandings, the biggest thing to pay attention to is being intentional.
Change can be scary and but also freeing at times. It involves some risks. Yet the risk of doing more of the same ought to be more frightening, for it has gotten us to this place of being on auto pilot. In order to get something new, we must do something new. It’s simple. And it starts with us making a commitment, guided by our intentions to change the way we do things. Once we start looking at our life and fear’s differently, we’ll have much more to gain and nothing to lose. Today I wanted to focus on creating a space where we can learn to become more purposeful, and less automatic. We can bind our capacity to follow our heart by being clear about what we want to be about and knowing the intentions on the kind of life we wish to live. 🧠🌱
